- How do I join Massify?
- How do I validate my account?
- Why should I validate my account?
- Do I have to pay anything?
To join Massify, just click Register in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and follow the prompts. Massify has two tiers of use: basic and pro. Basic membership allows users to vote, comment and have profiles, including resumes. Pro members can upload portfolio items, create pitches and enter contests. The only difference between the two is the amount of information we ask you for.
Shortly after you register to become a Massify member, we will send an email to the address you provide, asking you to validate your account. To confirm your interest in joining Massify, just click on the link provided in the email. Remember, you can't create pitches, audition for roles, or vote for competitions until you validate your account. If you can't find your validation email try checking your spam folder. If you're still having trouble, ask for another validation email through contact@massify.com
The short answer is that you should validate your account to prove that you are a real person who wants to join the Massify community, and not a spam robot. Validating your account will also let us know that your email address works
You most certainly do not. Massify is completely free.

The great Hollywood tradition of pitching lets a dreamer walk into a meeting with nothing but an idea, and walk out a moviemaker. We've brought that concept to the web. Our pitch tool allows you to take your raw movie ideas and bring them to life. Enter your pitches into competition, or establish connections within the Massify community that can help turn your ideas into fully-fledged films.
You can also use our pitch tool to help with your own productions. Production resources like asset management and the production log streamline some of the inefficiencies of moviemaking — helping you to communicate better with your existing cast and crew.
To create a pitch, go to your dashboard page and click the "Create Pitch" link in your Pitch Manager. That link will take you directly to your pitch creation screen. You can also access this page by clicking the "Create a Pitch Now" button on the Pitches page. If you do not have a Massify Pro account, you will be asked to register for one so that you can save pitches to the My Pitches page of your profile. (Massify Pro accounts are entirely free - we just ask for a little bit more information about you.) Once you are a pro member, you can use the My Pitches page to create your first pitch.
In the Add Pitch box, you will be asked to submit a title and logline, choose the genre(s) of your project, and select a URL where your pitch will live.
Once your pitch is created, you will be able to develop it by adding and managing the synopsis, cast, crew, screenplay, auditions, production details, and assets.
We feature projects that are particularly well put together and would be of general interest to the Massify community. The best way to get featured is to create a really compelling pitch and flesh it out with additional media such as videos, storyboards and reference imagery. The more substance you have behind your idea, the better.
A logline is a brief, one-line encapsulation of your movie idea.
A synopsis is a brief written description of what will happen in your project. It might give details on the characters, plot, and tone of your project.
Assets are the media related to your pitch. These might take the form of videos, your screenplay, reference imagery, or anything else that helps enhance your pitch.
When you fill out the cast page for your pitch, you will notice that each role includes a section for audition instructions. Use this box to provide direction to actors auditioning for this role so that they know what to submit for your project. For instance, you might ask for an audition that specifically reflects their dramatic ability.
When you add crew roles to your pitch, you can use the Special Instructions box to more fully explain that crew member's responsibilities. For example, if you select the role type "Designer," you can provide special instructions about what that person will be designing (set design, costume design, etc.). Special instructions are especially valuable when the exact role type you need is not available and you want to select "Other."
Your Pitch Summary keeps track of your project's rating, the date it was created, its privacy settings, its genre, and how many times it has been viewed. To edit viewing restrictions and genre, click on the pencil icon in the upper right corner of the Pitch Summary box.
Your Production Details help you manage your pitch's production and post-production schedule, including location information and other important notes. By directing your cast and crew to this page, you can keep your entire team updated and aware of any changes to your production schedule.
To add this information to your pitch, click "Edit Production Details" and follow the instructions. To edit your Production Details once they have been added, click "View Details," and use the "Edit" link in the upper right corner of the screen.
Your Cast List module outlines all the lead and supporting roles in your project, including how many auditions you currently have. Additional descriptions are housed in your Cast page, which members of the community can view to determine if they want to audition for a role. You can edit the information in your pitch's Cast page, by clicking on the Cast tab or select the "Add a Cast Role" link in your Cast List module.
Your Crew Roles module outlines the crew members needed for your project, including how many applications you currently have. Additional descriptions are housed in your Crew page, which members of the community can view to determine if they want to apply for a crew role. You can edit the information in your pitch's Crew page, by clicking on the Crew tab or select the "Add a Cast Role" link in your Crew Roles module.
Each pitch can only be submitted to one competition at a time. If your pitch does not place in that competition, you can then submit it to other competitions. Finalists should check each competition's rules to verify whether they can re-submit their pitch to subsequent competitions
In Massify terminology, the producer is anyone who creates a pitch on the site. As a producer, you're presenting your idea and managing your pitch's content. The pitch producer can also be the director, a cast member, or crew on the film itself.
In some of Massify's competitions, the community ultimately decides who gets cast for the winning pitch. The producer's pick allows the pitch producer (the person who came up with the idea) the opportunity to indicate who he or she thinks would be best for the job.
The best way to promote your pitch is to directly recruit people to audition for roles. Browse through people on the site and send them a message — or use the Roles tab within your pitch to directly recruit people.
If you have actors in mind, you can click the "Invite to Audition" link within his/her profile page. This will generate a mail message in their Massify inbox, notifying the actor of your audition request. If you don't have an actor in mind, you can try searching for actors on the People page.
You control who sees your pitch based on the permission parameters you select. You can keep it private, allowing only you to see your pitch. You can also restrict viewing to just your friends (site connections). Or you can let anybody on the site see your pitch by keeping it public. All pitches in competition are public
Only the producer of a pitch can upload media to pitch assets.
The pitch video is your chance to explain your idea directly to the Massify community and promote more interest in your pitch. Some competitions may require you to submit a pitch video for prize consideration.
You can upload videos in any of the following formats: Quicktime, AVI, Flash video, MPEG, and Windows Media (WMV).
Back to top Headshot Builder
- Why should I use the Massify headshot builder?
- What do I need in order to use this tool?
- How do I begin building my headshot?
- How do I edit my headshot?
- How do I crop my headshot within the tool?
- How do I add text to the headshot?
- My text is hidden by photos or vice versa. How do I fix this?
- How do I edit my credits?
- I've finished my headshot. Now what do I do?
The Massify headshot builder creates digital headshots, which you can then download and print if you would like a hard copy of your headshot. The headshot is based on your Massify profile page, and can be easily emailed and shared with those who matter in the industry. The headshot builder formats much of your headshot for you. It saves you time and money.
In order to use this tool, you'll need at least one high-quality image of yourself to begin building your headshot. High-res images work best. If you have more than one photo of yourself, you can add multiple photos to the headshot. Also, it helps if you've already inserted credits on your resume in your Massify profile. This allows you to easily drag your existing credits into your headshot.
The easiest way to begin building your headshot is to go through the headshot builder wizard, which will take you step by step through the process. If not, you can go directly into the builder. You'll see all of your profile assets housed in the bottom right hand rectangle. Simply drag these into your headshot and then edit them.
First, make sure you are on the page you'd like to edit. You have two to choose from: front and back. Using the small page icons on the top of the builder, choose F for front or B for back. Click on the element of your headshot you would like to edit. When you click, an edit box will appear. Four small, red squares outline the edit box; left click on any of these to begin editing and then hold and drag until you've reached your desired effect. In order to delete an element, click on it and then press Delete on your keyboard.
You cannot crop the entire page; you can only crop images already on that page. Therefore, if you'd like to crop your photo, click once on the photo, then choose the first of the two small black boxes, which is the crop tool. A small image will appear to crop. Drag on the top left red box to crop your image, choose Crop, and the image will appear on your main headshot page.
In the tool menu to the right of the headshot, choose the Text option. A text box outlined in red will appear on your headshot. Drag the text box to the desired position on the headshot. Underneath the Text option is a Properties tab, and within that is a gray box that reads 'text'. Type your text into this box to make it appear on the headshot.
Think about the text and photos you are adding onto your headshot like you think of layers in a traditional photo editing program like Photoshop. There are two options underneath the Properties tab: Bring To Front and Send To Back. If you bring an image or text box to front, it is completely visible. If you send it to back, whatever is behind that layer becomes visible. If your text or photo is hidden, click on it; when it becomes outlined in red, click Send To Front.
Your credits come directly off your resume on your Massify profile. They will appear under the Credits tab in the headshot builder. Simply drag them onto your headshot. In order to add or subtract to these, save your headshot. Go back to your profile and edit your credits. Then go back into your headshot. Your new credits will appear under the Credits tab. You may now drag those into your headshot. You may also manually enter credits using the Paragraph tool.
After you've completed your headshot, save it. It will automatically save to your Massify profile. You may also download it, which is an option found next to the page option. It will save as a PDF file (2 pages). You may then print this, or send it as an email attachment.
Back to top Storyboards
- What is a storyboard?
- How do I begin a new storyboard?
- How do I edit a storyboard panel?
- How do I add transitions?
- My new panel is not where it's supposed to be.
- Can I move panels from one storyboard to another?
- My storyboard panel won't upload. Why?
- My panels appear too long or too fat while viewing.
- Why can't I view a storyboard?
A storyboard is a sequence of images, consisting of camera shots and movement, displayed in chronological order. It is a visual representation of your project, and is useful in planning out shots and presenting your vision to others.
Your storyboard is part of a pitch. When you begin a pitch, you'll see tabs where you can upload your video, screenplay, etc. Click on "Storyboard" and then name it. It is helpful for your storyboard and pitch to have the same name but not necessary.
Once you highlight a panel (it's highlighted when you see orange lines around it on your storyboard timeline), double click from your storyboard timeline or select 'edit current panel'. From there, you can change the duration of the panel (how long it remains on the screen) and the size of the panel when it begins and ends in your timeline (to zoom in and out). You can also add a description, to appear when the panel is shown on your timeline, and change your image.
When you add a panel to your storyboard, you'll see a small box on the right-hand sign of the panel. Click on that and then choose which transition you'd like.
When you add a new panel, it should appear at the end of your storyboard. To move it to the correct spot, simply drag the panel where you need it to go.
In short, no. Since panels are specific to the storyboard in which they were created, we suggest that you stick to one storyboard per project, as opposed to dividing up the storyboards by act or other criteria.
You can upload jpg, gif and png files as panels. If you're trying to upload a different kind of file, it should be renamed accordingly. If your image is too large (bigger than 10 megabytes), you should try compressing it.
Your dimensions should be as close to 16:9 as possible. If your images are a little off, you will probably be able to use the zoom tool on the storyboard creator to approximate the look you are going for. Otherwise, if your images look too stretched one way or another, you may want to modify your original image to be as close as possible to 16:9.
Make sure that you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. Also, make sure that you are working on the latest version of your browser. Download Flash Player here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Back to top About Auditions
- What is an audition?
- Can I submit my existing reel to an audition?
- Can I audition for my own pitch?
- How does it work, once I've submitted?
- How do I promote my audition?
"Audition" is our generic term for any cast or crew uploading media to try out for a role in a pitch. Pitch producers can request auditions for their pitches. Additionally, many contests will require auditions. The best auditions will be tailored for the pitches, though generic media (such as reels) may also be accepted.
Yes, you can submit your existing reel to auditions. However, you are more likely to be cast in a role if you create something specifically tailored for that pitch. Some pitches will have specific requirements — such as a side — that you should read from when auditioning.
You can!
What happens after you've submitted your audition depends on what you're auditioning for.
If you're auditioning for a private pitch, the pitch producer will choose who he or she casts from the available auditions.
If you're auditioning for a competition, then frequently the role will go to the audition that wins the most votes. The producer, however, will have a chance to highlight his or her "Producer's Pick."
The best way to bring attention to your audition is to tailor your piece according to the pitch and role you're auditioning for. Pay attention to production quality, too: a well-crafted audition will inevitably engage the viewer's interest more than a piece with poor sound and lighting.
You can also send out links to your friends, telling them to view and rate the audition and to vote for you.

- What's a Production Log?
- How do I use my Production Log?
- What is a headshot and why do I need to generate one?
- How does the Massify Headshot Generator work?
Think of the Production Log like a blog for your project. It's where you can post entries to keep your cast, crew, and the Massify community updated on your project.
When viewing one of your pitch pages, click the "Production" tab. Once you complete your Production Details, you will be able to post in your Production Log. The most recent log entries will surface to your pitch's Production Details module.
A headshot is an 8x10-inch photograph that actors usually submit along with their resume to audition for roles. You don't need a headshot to get roles, but it provides industry professionals with a quick and easy way to determine whether you might be right for one of their projects. Massify's headshot generator allows actors to combine their photo and resume in two quick steps. We combine a selected photo with the credits listed on the actor's resume, and generate a high quality PDF. Actors can then download this document and send it out to casting agents, producers and directors.
Our headshot generator creates a digital version of your headshot and resume in just two simple steps. First, select a photo from your portfolio. Then, choose what information from your Massify resume you want to display with your photo. Finally, click "Generate Headshot" and through the magic of technology, you will receive an Abode Acrobat (PDF) file containing your headshot. You can send it around as a digital file, or print it out on photo paper.

- I'm having trouble entering a Competition. What's going on?
To see past, current, and future competitions, visit Massify's Competitions page.
If a competition is open, there will be a call for entries and instructions on how to enter on the Competitions page. In some competitions, once you enter, your qualifying details cannot be edited or deleted, but you can add other assets to showcase your submission's potential.
First, make sure that you have submitted all of the required information. If your entry seems complete and you are still having trouble, please let us know contact@massify.com and we'll help you out.
Back to top Community / Privacy Settings
- How do I restrict who can see my media?
- How can I work with my friends?
- Can I invite someone to audition for a private pitch?
You can change privacy settings on your pitches, so that only you yourself can see them, only your friends can see them, or anybody can see them. Once you have submitted a pitch to competition, you can no longer change its privacy settings.
One of Massify's core functions is to help you collaborate with your existing colleagues and friends. Create a pitch and then add your friends as cast and crew members. You can then use the production and assets tools to manage your film.
Yes. That person then has the ability to view your pitch. Right now, you cannot take away the ability for someone to view your pitch, so try to remember whom you invite. Moving forward, we hope to develop tools to allow you to grant and remove permissions.

- What are credits?
- What can I do with my credits?
- What should I put under Training?
- What should I put under Education?
- What should I put under Special Skills?
Credits allow you to reference your previous work — anything from a feature film to a video you uploaded on YouTube.
A lot! Your credits determine how you show up in Search: as a Director, a Producer, an actor, etc. Just remember to fill out your "type" when building a credit.
You can also link your credits to albums in your portfolio. Just open your Portfolio, select an Album that you want to link your credit to, and go into Edit. Within Album Edit you will find a Credits section where you will be able to establish this link.
If you've developed a specific technique through a program or with professional training, here's the place to list it. For example, acting classes, participation in film-related workshops, or training in specific camera and/or editing techniques would all fall under this category.
This is where you would list any high school, college, or graduate programs you have attended, as well as what you studied.
If you have any noteworthy talents (like the ability to sing, dance, ride horses, skateboard, juggle chainsaws, etc.) that might make you especially suited for a potential role, include them here.
Back to top Your Portfolio
- What is my portfolio?
- What is an album?
- How do I upload media?
- How do I remove media that I've uploaded?
- Can I add a description of media in my album?
Your portfolio is the place on the site where you house all your media — anything from headshots to an audition for a pitch to a screenplay. You can also link media in your portfolio to your resume credits.
Within the portfolio you can create multiple albums. If you associate each album with a specific project, you can then link your credits from your resume to that album.
Every opportunity to upload media will prompt you to choose the relevant file. Under your Portfolio, for example, create an album. Then select "Add media" and then "Browse for files to upload." All you have to do then is select the files on your hard drive.
To delete media from your portfolio, select the red icon at the upper left corner of the file you wish to remove. If you want to remove an entire album, select "Delete Album."
For now, you can only add descriptions of portfolio albums. You can also add comments to individual images or media. We are working to allow you to title and caption your portfolio media.

- How do I add to my Favorites?
A Connection is a Massify member with whom you are friends and/or with whom you collaborate.
To increase your network of Connections, search for other members in the People section of the site. When you find people that you'd like to work with or befriend, click the "Add as Connection" link under their profile picture. They will be automatically added to your Connections and the link under their profile will change to "Remove Connection," allowing you to take them off your Connections list.
Favorites are the people, pitches, and portfolios that you admire and want to make a note of. Favorites allow you to bookmark individuals and content of particular interest to you and follow their future progress. Note that you can "favorite" someone's work without necessarily becoming that person's connection.
To add to your Favorites, click on the "Save to Favorites" links found throughout the site. Your selections will be automatically added to your Favorites and the selected links will change to "Remove from Favorites." You can also manage this process in the Favorites section of your profile.
