Student Grant FAQ
What is the Student Film Grant?
The Student Film Grant is our way of introducing Massify to the student filmmaking community. We've invited students from the leading film institutions in our area to help put our site through its paces, and in the process, pitch their film projects for a $10,000 grant to be awarded by your peers.
What is the Prize?
A $10,000 production budget to produce your student film pitch.
How does the grant work?
The competition will be broken out into two phases. During the initial phase, film pitches are created on Massify and preliminary voting begins. The pitches with the top 10 number of votes will make it through to the final round where a week-long finalist voting period will determine the grant recipient.
How do I apply?
All you need to do to apply is to create a pitch that communicates the basics of your film idea. We ask that you provide a title, logline, brief synopsis, character breakdown, and draft script for your project.
Are there any restrictions on the type of film I can make?
We'll be getting into feature length projects very soon, but for now we're limiting this grant to short films with a 30 page script limit.
Is this a finishing fund?
No. We want this film to be completely original, and like you, we're looking forward to premiering the first student film greenlit by your peers.
Can teams enter the competition?
You're free to work with whomever you like, but we ask that you choose a team leader to upload your pitch. Once it's up, feel free to use the pitch space to showcase the talents and vision of everyone involved.
Can I revise my pitch during the contest?
Once you have submitted your pitch to the contest, you will not be able to edit or change your title, logline, synopsis, draft screenplay, or cast section. But you will have the ability to upload additional pitch 'Assets,' so feel free to add poster images, pitch videos, or even script rewrites to show the community your progress.
When is the finished film due?
The Final Cut is due 6 months from the announcement of the winning pitch.
Who owns the rights to the finished movie?
You do. All we ask is that you give us an exclusive to premiere your film on our website for 30 days. But you can submit to any other festivals and feel free to organize screening events in your area.
What's all this I see about auditions? Who's going to be working on my film?
Once Massify launches, auditions will be a way of connecting site users from different areas of expertise to collaborate on one project. For now, during our Student Film Grant, we're testing our audition system and looking for your input to help build a tool that will streamline the auditioning process. You will have ultimate say on your cast and crew, but for now, think of the audition system as a way to start the casting process, showcase some stellar talent you may already have signed on, or just add some personality to your pitch.
If I don't win, can I still make my movie?
Absolutely, you always retain your intellectual property, and at no point do you grant Massify that right
How can I help?
Massify is very much a product in development, and as proud as we are of the progress we've made, we also know that there is a lot of room for growth. We need high caliber users to let us know how we can make Massify a real product that you would use to make films and collaborate with your peers.
