Beach Club

Look/technical: The look of the video is polished, modern and shot in 35mm color (Arri 235/3perf for ease in mobility and steadicam application) or for budgetary considerations, HD (Red) finishing in the 16x9 standard widescreen aspect ratio/HD.

Concept: A young man, Frank (27 yrs), good-looking and quite well dressed is riding his bike along a beach side road on his way to an outdoor pool club (For example the Coral Casino in Santa Barbara). We see the stretch of ocean as Frank rides along freely, the camera pacing smoothly along.

Arriving at the pool club Frank locks up his bike. A man pulls up in a vintage convertible Porsche with a beautiful woman sitting alongside. Frank looks at the woman. She takes quick notice of him and moves toward the door of the beach club with her boyfriend.

A special event is underway as wealthy 20- and 30-somethings mingle. The camera passes through a crowd of well-dressed guests. A tech moves toward a guitar and swaps it out with another; the instruments all carefully set.

Frank pulls his fake watch down his arm so it's exposed past his long sleeve shirt and makes his way to the stylish entrance of the beach club. A woman at the front desk greets him with a smile and checks a list of names. Frank's eyes drift out as he takes notice of the gathering out on the pool deck. Looking on, his gaze shifts to the foreground as his eyes meet those of the beach club manger. He quickly looks away and the woman having checked the list twice nods her head disapprovingly, offering up a fake smile. Two attractive female guests quickly walk past Frank; members of the beach club they are kindly greeted by the manager. Frank turns to an outstretched exit the doorman patiently holds open.

Outside he stands staring at the beach, the shimmer on the water blurring and doubling into a glamorous haze. Catching a second breath of confidence he looks over and sees a waiter going through a side gate into the club. He looks around quickly and moves toward the gate. Another waiter walks out, and as he passes he catches the door before it slams shut. He moves through a staging/supply area. Walking down a narrow hallway a waiter moves past him with an order of shrimp cocktail and drinks. He gets to a door and opens it up, which leads him out to the pool area. (Shot with steadicam).

The camera weaves through the faces of the crowd as they look out at the band. We catch shots here of the band performing, shots of instrumentation as the camera floats in, tight on the action of guitars, keys and Lucas singing. Howie smashes the drums; the sticks hang in the air with a slight latency. The gleaming guests expressions seem to leer a little longer, their smiles and laughter hang in the air in slight slow-motion.

Frank takes a seat next to the couple that he watched get out of the convertible Porsche. The young woman and Frank exchange a quick glance. A waiter comes over to take his drink order. He pulls out some crumpled cash as the waiter looks at him signaling that he can't accept cash. Frank waives the waiter off.

The waiter and manager are talking; an index finger is pointed out toward Frank.

The band performs at the height of the track here at around 3:07. The guests start to look around as the waiter and beach club manger make their way toward Frank. Breaking for it he stands up and runs.

Frank diving off the pools edge pulls several breaststrokes underwater. The manager and waiter run alongside the pool. Frank, reaching the far end of the pool, makes a run for the door down to the beach. Barely beating out the waiter and manager they continue to give chase following after him. Frank jumps into the ocean swimming out to sea. The waiter and manager stand at the shore out of breath.

The band performs in a flurry of energized shots as guests look on. Craning their necks back around to the band, guests return to their seats some with slight grins amused by the ordeal.
