Be Afraid of the Dark

JIM is sleeping on the couch, when a strange noise comes from upstairs. He gets up, looks in his kid's room, everything seems fine. As he exits the room, Jim sees something out of the corner of his eye. He starts searching the house. After finding nothing, he goes back to sleep. Seconds later, a muffled scream comes from his kid's room. Jim jumps, runs up the stairs, kicks open HIS kid's room and is in enveloped by the darkness.
It's Morning; a baby's cry wakes MATT and SARA in their bed. The alarm is flashing 12:00. Sh*t! Matt grabs his press pass and clothes, then runs out of the door. At the newspaper, APRIL, Matt's editor chews him out for being late. He gets the last available assignment, reporting on an increase of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in the area. He refuses because he has a new born and suggests writing a story about the recent rolling blackouts. He is forced to work on the SIDS story through out the day, when he gets a call from Sara; there is an emergency at his brother Jim's house.
Sara tells Matt, Jim's family is dead. The baby, in Sara's arms, points at the house surrounded by cops. There is no known cause, for any of the deaths and Jim has been placed in custody for psychiatric observation. A police man says he hasn't seen anything like this since the Bowman murders.
April hounds Matt for information on his brother as the police prepare to charge Jim with the murders of his wife and two kids. Matt desperate for answers tracks down JON BOWMAN, who starts to give details but after seeing Matt's press pass, asks him to leave.
Sara goes to see Jim at the mental institution, when a blackout occurs. Sara sees Jim attacked by something in the dark. Meanwhile, Matt convinces Bowman to help him, and is invited into his home. When Sara gets home, April is there. Sara tells April about Jim's death, while April secretly texts the info to her newspaper.
Bowman explains that strange bumps in the night aren't imaginary. They are creatures he calls "The Dark". They suck the lives out of the living (particularly children) and take being seen as a threat. They try to steer clear of light or recording equipment, but they will stop at nothing once you know about them. They have been following Bowman causing SIDs. Matt not believing Bowman decides to leave when Sara calls. But as she notifies Matt the power goes out. Bowman picks up his flash light; there is something creeping out of the corner. A large dark creature grabs Matt, and Bowman stars beating the hell out of it until it lets go. The two fight off the dark until a back up generator clicks on, Bowman tells Matt to go protect his wife. As Matt takes off in his car, the lights go out aging in Bowman's house and he is attacked.
With the lights out, April and Sara go to the crying baby. April drops her cell phone, as Sara picks it up she sees April's last text and tells her to leave. As April walks out, she sees something. Matt runs in the door, April say there's something here, then a black figure pieces her chest, sucking the life out of her. Matt tries to save but it is too late. A scream! Sara fights off the dark to protect her child. Matt runs up the stairs but the dark grabs and drags him down the stair, he grabs onto a closet doorway, he reaches for his bat inside. Just as he loses his grip, a bloody Bowman unloads a shotgun blat into the dark. The two save Sara and the baby from the dark upstairs Then fight their way out of the house. Bowman tries to hold them off but is killed.
Later, the couple is sleeping in the sunlight with their baby in between them. As the sun sets, the two rise and gear up for a night of fighting off the dark.
