"Dorsai"

DONAL GRAEME is from the planet Dorsai. Like all Dorsai, Donal has been trained from birth to be a warrior. Following in the footsteps of his celebrated older brother, Mor, he sets out to make his mark. He believes his destiny is to become the greatest general ever produced by the Dorsai. However, his real destiny is to become the next step in human evolution.

Donal's journey begins aboard a starship bound for his first post. He is eager to meet WILLIAM, a charismatic visionary. As Donal travels to his first assignment he encounters a beautiful woman named ANEA, one of the greatest treasures of her people, the Exotics. The Exotic leader, SAYONA, has engineered Anea to become the consort of the most powerful man in the universe. All assume this to be, William.

Born on Earth, William came to Ceta to form a power base. In treacherous fashion, he executed his closest friends and allies without mercy. Despite his ruthlessness, his people love him. William's ambition is total control over all of the 14 worlds of the universe. He employs any tactic necessary: market manipulation, propaganda, targeted strikes or when necessary...total war.

Upon meeting Donal, Anea asks him to destroy this "social contract" with William - a reckless act punishable by death. Instead, Donal reveals this to William, hoping to curry favor with the great man. William sees Donal's potential, and he immediately offers him a post with an army fighting religious fanatics. Donal accepts, and in doing so, alienates Anea. William holds Anea to her contract.

Donal's bold tactics lead to victory. Understandably, he expects William to be pleased. However, William is furious as Donal's victory foils a secret plot. William cancels Donal's contract and hires his brother Mor, further disgracing Donal.

Donal comes to the attention of GALT, a fellow Dorsai and the military commander of the planet Freiland. Although his planet does business with William, Galt has never trusted him. Donal impresses Galt with his instincts about William's duplicitous nature. Galt recruits Donal as his strategic aide. All the while, William continues to implement his master plan to dominate the universe.

Donal shows an increasing genius for strategic thinking. Under Galt, he commands a five-ship force that tricks an eight-hundred ship fleet into surrendering. The bluff results in little to no loss of life. His reputation grows to heroic status across the universe.

Galt hosts a celebration in honor of Donal. All the players of the universe attend. William's entourage arrives in grand fashion. But Mor, envious, is noticeably absent. During the party, Donal and Anea continue to spar around their hidden attraction.

Sayona offers Donal the post of Protector of the Exotic worlds. He accepts. Sayona tests Donal and discovers his potential is beyond their ability to measure. Sayona attempts to convince Donal to give up his military career and develop his potential as a human. Donal scoffs at the idea. He resumes his duties as Protector.

In an attempt to lure Donal back to him, William secretly offers Donal a new, powerful post over a large universal force. Donal rejects the proposal in front of the universal council, refusing to reveal the source of the offer. The council erupts in chaos. The universe is divided between supporters of Donal and the supporters of William. Anea joins Donal.

William establishes his own mercenary army. Galt is imprisoned by false charges set up by William, but it is a ruse to set a trap for Donal. Donal takes the bait, but in a daring rescue sets Galt free. Furious, William declares Donal a rogue and outlaw. The council appoints Donal to the post of planetary commander to oppose William's private army.

With Anea and Galt at his side, Donal sets his sights on defeating William. William's last gasp is to murder Donal's brother Mor. The shock releases Donal's inner powers and he overwhelms William.
