Fifteen years ago, a trial drug was tested on a group of civilians in an attempt to create a telepathic bond between humans and computers. Now, Placebo thrives on the streets, used with cult-like devotion by hackers and lowlives. Mace, a detective tracking a series of mysterious attacks, hides a dark secret that connects him with the very people he is following. While investigating the latest crime scene, he crosses paths with Frankie, a woman determined to find her addict brother who has gone missing. On their journey, Mace is plagued by a rotting figure who appears in visions more and more frequently as they grow nearer to the answers they seek.
