EVIL BENEATH THE SOIL is about a small, isolated 19th century farming community that discovers a tomb containing a demonic stone statue with an enormous erect phallus. In the coming nights the wives of the farmers become entranced and begin to visit the statue during the night for sexual gratification. Soon afterward the crops flourish, and many of the men begin to accept the evil that has come into their small community. It is a tale of greed and the terror a man feels when he realizes that he has lost control.

The central character William is leader of the four farmers and their wives in the beginning, and this is shown is small ways to build the framework that will later be threatened. William's wife has recently given birth to their first child, and the lack of physical intimacy between them is hinted to end soon. A storm one of the only trees on the farm, which causes a hidden chamber within the earth to be revealed. The men explore it, find the statue, and determine that possibly they can sell it to the college in nearest large town. It is decided that on the coming Sunday that two of the men will travel to the college and try to solicit a professor to return with them. This never comes to be. Instead the statue calls to the men's wives during the night, and they begin to visit the unearthed chamber in a trance like state, while their husbands sleep.

The crops flourish and reach harvest maturity very quickly. The men are overjoyed because they will be able to name their price at market, because they will be the only sellers.

That night William the leader catches his wife "sleepwalking" out through the crops toward the chamber. He returns her to bed and ventures to the chamber where he finds the other farmer's wives engaged in an orgy with the creature of stone. He attempts to destroy it, but the eyes of the beast come alive and William is charmed into a trance, and then awakens from a deep sleep within his bed.

When he emerges from his home, the other three men stand awaiting him, each holding their scythes. They are clearly consumed with greed and the evil which has infiltrated their community, and harshly encourage Williams to get his scythe to harvest the mature wheat. He defies them, stating instead that he chooses his hammer so that he can smash the creature of stone. The men begin to encircle him, and we see in the eyes that they are now planning to kill him. When Williams attempts to re-enter his cottage, he hears the lock being set into place from the other side. He knows then that he wife was entranced again after he himself was, and that she returned to service the statue.

This is the true horror of the tale; that Williams has so thoroughly lost the control that was once his, and the love of a woman who we the audience have come to desire as well.

Stephanie Joyce Just because the video isn't the best, I think this would work perfect as a horror! I can also see this going in the direction of Evil Dead. It's really up to you!!!

mcookie72 Tony Timpone - "I like several of the ideas here (kidnappees trained to kill; their individual masks), but this may require a few big bucks to realize what could be an exciting final act (the town besieged by the small army of crazies). Hey, wouldnÃ-t PERKINSÃ- 13 be more of a good "horror title"? " regarding Perkins' 14 -- This clown, Anthony Timpone has done nothing but criticise the last 9 contestants for originality and what does he say about your title? "Hey, wouldnÃ-t PERKINSÃ- 13 be more of a good "horror title"? " (goofy Bullwinkle voice) OMFG! Gee Tony, you mean like 13 Ghosts? Like Friday the 13th? Or lets cross genres shall we? Precinct 13 or Ocean's 13. At first his criticism appears to be from his experience in the horror industry, but apparently, he's nothing but a video store clerk that has the horror section memorized. Keep Perkins 14. Its original and doesn't send you down a path of mediocrity.

Kevin_Shannon Voters might already be familar with this story as this author has had several works published. Therefore, they might already be a fan of the story and might not feel the need to comment. In addition, I would suspect that people who are actually trying to provide constructive feedback or seek clarification about a pitch email the pitch creator directly. Why post the above comment when it's not something a pitch creator can answer?

cagwa Amazing how this one gets about 60 votes over the weekend and hardly anyone has commented on it. You seem to average about 5 votes an hour and climbed from 9th place to 5th over a holiday weekend. Just seems strange that your supporters never comment. Do they even take the time to watch or read what you've done?

Ellen Smithie I did do a pitch. You can look it up. It didn't get seen by too many and didn't get past 55th place, but that part of the contest is over and I got over it. Why can't you? Do you have anything positive or negative, in the manner of constructive criticism, to say about the top ten entries that are continuing on?

So far, no, you don't. You're pushing your own ineligible pitch here trying to ride these folk's coat tails. How sad is that.
