Loop Planes, Day 2

Things are going smoothly. Well, relatively smoothly, as smoothly as shooting entirely daylight exteriors in the middle of August at an amusement park can go. The face that small children make when you’ve told them that they can’t go on their favorite roller coaster for the next two hours is hopelessness distilled. The pressure to keep everybody happy, from park owners to ride-goers to cast and crew means timing and organization are essential. Luckily, we have a pretty incredible “production office” set up in the Birthday Party Room here at Quassy, which serves as our control center. I spend the majority of my time here, keeping the peace.
Episode #1: Killer Films Chooses Loop Planes
8/24/2009 at 12:19 PM by Amy Allen
Since being hired by Massify to document the creation of Loop Planes, Brooke Sebold has been trailing Director Robin Wilby, Producer Christine Vachon, and everyone else working on the project, armed with a camera. We hope you enjoy this first documentary episode, which begins with Killer choosing Robin's project. More footage from the set of Loop Planes - which began shooting today - coming soon.

LOOP PLANES Update
6/30/2009 at 7:25 AM by robin wilby
I would like to thank everyone on massify.com – for your support of LOOP PLANES as well as your cast and crew submissions. Already, this has been such an extraordinary experience.
I also want to thank the amazing people at Massify and Killer Films, who have literally been working non-stop to make this dream a reality.
We recently secured a really cool amusement park near Waterbury, Connecticut. If you are from the area, I’d like to encourage you to apply as soon as possible, and for those of you who are not local, please let me know if you’re willing to travel. Also, due to the availability of the location, we will be filming in late August, which is why we have extended the deadlines for cast and crew submissions until July 15th.
Honorable Mentions from Killer Films
6/18/2009 at 1:27 PM by Christine Vachon
Once again, thank you for taking the time to submit your screenplays and pitches to the Massify website. I, along with the rest of the Killer Films staff, thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the submissions that flooded in. There are a few excellent, thought-provoking entries in particular that we feel deserve acknowledgment. Killer Films would like to award Honorable Mention to the following scripts: Half a Stop, Backflip, Tuesday, Looking Glass, and Song of a Fifth Grade Samurai. Please take the time to read these memorable projects written by your peers. Commentary after the jump.

LOOP PLANES
6/4/2009 at 6:27 AM by Christine Vachon
We believe that LOOP PLANES will be an incredibly compelling short film and are so excited to work with a young writer who we feel has the talent and drive to really come into her own as a filmmaker.
Robin's script tells a very personal story that ultimately elucidates broad and accessible themes. We love the interplay between adult and child that the script examines alongside a really nuanced and subtle examination of identity in teens. Beginning with a typical boy-meets-girl scenario one is quickly led to project the arch of the story, however, the deftly written script compels both characters and the audience to reevaluate their expectations.
Killer Will Announce Concept Soon
5/27/2009 at 1:35 PM by Amy Allen
Many thanks again to all of the extremely talented filmmakers who shared their stories! The quality of your work is making the final decision difficult.
Due to the number of impressive submissions, Killer Films will need a few more days to review concepts and make a final decision; we should have the chosen concept posted by mid next week. As soon as we do, the writer/director and Killer will begin reaching out to the community to fill the cast and crew positions.
To find out how you can become involved, keep checking the Killer Films page for updates.
Thank You For Your Submissions
5/18/2009 at 3:22 PM by Amy Allen
A huge thank you to everybody who submitted their concepts to the Killer Films short film project! We've been deeply impressed by all of the great ideas that were submitted, and while only one concept will be able to be produced this time around, nobody's hard work goes unnoticed. This includes both the filmmakers who submitted, as well as everyone who gave helpful feedback in the comments.
(We did have some technical issues that bungled a few submissions, and we've been in contact with the people who were affected. You may see a few new concepts trickle in as we fix those submissions.)
The work you've done is a great start for this production, the first of several films we'll be producing with Killer. Version 2 will kick off within a few months, so keep checking back for more info.
Thank you!
Killer Films Update: Only 3 Days Left!
5/11/2009 at 3:32 PM by Sasha Nelson
As the Killer Films' deadline is fast approaching, we wanted to take a moment to address a couple of issues we've been hearing about.
One. The deadline. Many of you have been asking for more specifics regarding the pitch deadline. We will stop accepting submissions at 11:30 PM EST on Thursday, May 14th. But please don't wait until the last minute to submit! (Yeah, right.) Seriously, though, we'd hate for your hard work to be lost because you missed the cutoff by 30 seconds.
Two. Ratings. As many of you have noticed, there has been more than a little bit of monkey-business with the ratings. We understand you may be here to support your friends (or yourself), but voting down other people's pitches is really not that cool. Besides being karmically harmful, it's super-transparent and actually undermines the very people you are trying to help. So please, help out by rating pitches, and be honest and fair.
That is all.

A Message From Christine Vachon
4/28/2009 at 1:57 PM by Christine Vachon

Hello, Massify!!!
First of all, I just want to say THANK YOU to those of you who were brave enough to submit the first batch of pitches. Being a part of something as original as this project is going to be a challenge and a constant work in progress. But thanks to the strength and commitment of this budding community, I have no doubt that we’ll be able to produce some truly memorable and original films which would erstwhile never have had a genuine chance. My staff and I are reviewing and discussing your ideas on a daily basis and while we understand your desire to fine tune yet to be submitted pitches, we’re also really anxious to get our hands on them, and to contribute to your development process in a truly meaningful way.

A Killer Opportunity
4/10/2009 at 12:17 AM by Amy Allen
It's worth repeating: If you're a filmmaker with a great concept for a short film, indie icon Killer Films wants to hear about it. Read up on what Christine Vachon has to say about the project on Indiewire.
Before we can write the script or begin casting, we need a story. That's where you come in. Tell us your idea by going here or clicking on any of the creative outlets all over the site.
It's really a great opportunity for anybody who wants to get their material read by one of the leading independent production companies.
